Four Bernstein Shur Attorneys Elected to Shareholder

PORTLAND, Maine (January 24, 2024) – Bernstein Shur is pleased to announce four new shareholders across the firm’s diverse practice groups, effective January 1, 2024.

“Our shareholders demonstrate the highest degree of excellence in client service and commitment to the future of Bernstein Shur,” said Chief Executive Officer Joan Fortin. “Rachael, Molly, Hilary and James are among the most talented attorneys in their respective practices, and we are pleased to recognize their contributions to the law, our clients, and our firm as our newest shareholders.”

Shareholder Rachael Becker McEntee (she/her) is an attorney in the Energy & Environmental Law Practice Group, where she advises project sponsors, investors, and financial institutions in the development, acquisition, and sale of renewable energy projects, as well as representing clients in front of the Maine Public Utilities Commission. Rachael has extensive experience in deal contracts, project development planning, and environmental diligence. She holds a J.D. from the Boston University School of Law and a B.A. from Harvard University, and is admitted to practice in the State of Maine and Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Shareholder Molly Barker Gilligan (she/her) is an attorney in the firm’s Health Care and Labor & Employment Practice Groups. Molly assists employers with all aspects of employee benefits, focusing on self-insured plans, cafeteria plans, health reimbursement arrangements, and public sector retirement plans and compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). Molly also has experience with the U.S. Department of Labor and the Internal Revenue Service correction programs. Molly’s practice also includes representing home and community-based service providers. She is admitted to practice in the State of Maine and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Molly holds a J.D. from the Quinnipiac University School of Law, and a B.A. from the University of Maine.

Shareholder Hilary Holmes Rheaume (she/her) is an attorney in the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Auto & Equipment Dealers Practice Groups. Hilary represents automotive and equipment dealers throughout New England – focusing specifically on franchise-related issues and dealer/manufacturer relations, including issues involving add points, terminations, transfers of ownership, and relocations. She also represents dealers in regulatory and compliance matters, licensing, advertising, consumer issues, and commercial litigation. Hilary also actively represents clients in real estate litigation. Hilary is admitted to practice in the States of New Hampshire and Vermont. She holds a J.D. from the University of New Hampshire School of Law, and a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Shareholder James Monteleone (he/him) is an attorney in the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Real Estate Practice Groups. James regularly represents businesses and property owners in real estate disputes centering on title issues, easement rights, contested boundaries, defective mortgages, partitions, leases and purchase and sale contracts. James also has extensive knowledge and experience in Maine election law litigation, including ballot initiative qualification and campaign finance compliance. That niche experience has included successfully establishing Ranked-Choice Voting in Maine, and repeatedly defending its constitutionality under state and federal law. He is admitted to practice in the State of Maine. James holds a J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law, an M.S. from Northwestern University, and a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
