Please join us for our 2022 Spring Labor and Employment Seminar as we discuss recent labor and employment developments. Following the afternoon seminar, we will provide cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and the chance to network with other attendees.

 


AGENDA

  • 1:00 – 1:05 p.m. Introduction & Welcome

  • 1:05 – 1:35 p.m. Unions are Active: What Employers Need to Know
    Ann Freeman will discuss recent unionization efforts across employers. She will provide you with helpful advice to ensure your employees are not seeking out representation and provide guidance to you in the event a union does show up at your doorstep.

  • 1:35 – 2:10 p.m. Benefits Update
    Molly Gilligan will give an update on recent trends in employee benefits, including Educational Assistance Programs, mental health parity enforcement, mandatory retirement programs, and what we may see from Departments of Labor, HHS, and Treasury in 2022. 

  • 2:10 – 2:20 p.m. Break
  • 2:20 – 2:50 p.m.  Frequently Asked Wage and Hour Questions
    Shiloh Theberge and Carolyn Liegner will review some frequently asked questions in the wage and hour realm, including the age-old question on the proper classification of independent contractors and special considerations involving tipped employees.

  • 2:50 – 4:00 p.m.  Legal Update – Accommodations, Equal Pay, Earned Leave, COVID, Other Updates
    In the haze of the pandemic, Tara Walker and Bill Wahrer will fill you in on what you might have missed. This session will cover legal updates on the significant recent developments in disability discrimination law, the Equal Pay Act, ME’s Earned Paid Leave law, and other issues, and how they might affect employers.
     
  • 4:00 – 4:30 p.m. “Stump the Lawyers” Q&A Session
    Our panelists will provide an opportunity for attendees to submit questions related to any topic in an attempt to “stump the lawyers” with a rare or challenging question you may have been curious about.
  • 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Cocktail Reception

 

PARKING is available at the Gateway Garage beside the hotel.
This event is pending approval for 2.75HR (General) recertification credit hours.
