Bernstein Shur Shareholder Selected to Present at International Association of Assessing Officers Annual Conference

Presentation explained the unique challenges involved in large property tax appeals

Portland and Augusta, ME and Manchester, NH (September 26, 2018) –N. Joel Moser, a shareholder at Bernstein Shur, a leading New England-based law firm, was chosen to lecture at the 84th International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) Annual Conference in Minneapolis, MN on Wednesday, September 26.

Moser’s presentation focused on how to prepare, defend, and manage large appeals of property tax assessments. By bringing life to abstract concepts through real-world case studies, Moser’s presentation helped ensure that municipal assessors and taxpayers are prepared to tackle the unique challenges of large appeals head on and manage a team of professionals to ensure a successful result. The international annual conference provides professional and educational sessions over three days for assessors, attorneys, and appraisal personnel.

Moser previously lectured at the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) Preparation and Trial of the Property Tax Appeal Seminar in Chapel Hill, NC in June.

Moser’s speaking engagements build upon his expanded thought leadership role in the industry, including work with IAAO’s national task force on contracting for assessing services, the ME Association of Assessing Officers, and as chair of Bernstein Shur’s Property Tax and Valuation Team.

Moser is a member of the firm’s Energy Practice Group and the Municipal and Governmental Services Practice Group, and chairs the firm’s Property Tax & Valuation Team, where he assists public and private clients with assessment appeals, tax collection, and current land use programs, as well as analysis and modeling of local property tax obligations. Moser also represents generation facility developers and owners, competitive electricity suppliers, renewable energy companies, and utilities in regulatory compliance matters across New England. He resides in Lewiston, ME with his wife, two young sons, and calculator.
