Bernstein Shur Welcomes Tax Attorney Ian M. Gilbert
Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced the addition of Ian M. Gilbert as a tax associate to the firm’s Business Law Practice Group in Portland, ME.
Gilbert’s practice will focus on all areas of business planning, including choice of entity analysis, due diligence, executing merger, acquisition, stock sale and asset sale transactions, providing guidance to flow-through entities on developing allocation and distribution strategies and counseling clients on a broad range of tax issues.
Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, Gilbert was a tax manager in the Multistate Tax Services group at Deloitte Tax, LLP in Boston, Mass., where he provided state and local tax consulting services to an array of national and local clients ranging from startups to publicly traded organizations. In addition, he provided state and local tax restructuring and due diligence services for mergers and acquisitions to buyers in a wide range of industries.
Gilbert received his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law, cum laude, and his L.L.M. in Taxation from the Boston University School of Law. He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire, summa cum laude. He is admitted to practice in both Massachusetts and ME and resides in Portland with his family.
