Shareholder Hilary H. Rheaume Featured in The Boston Globe for Role in NH Supreme Court Ruling

Bernstein Shur Shareholder Hilary H. Rheaume was recently spotlighted by The Boston Globe for her role in a landmark ruling by the New Hampshire Supreme Court. The case is drawing national attention for its potential to reshape the rights of domestic and sexual assault survivors within the legal system.

Rheaume signed a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence in the case of State v. Zarella, which centered on whether defendants should be allowed broad access to a victim’s private mental health and counseling records. The New Hampshire Supreme Court’s May 1 decision overturned decades-old precedent, affirming that the state’s 2018 constitutional amendment creates a clear and enforceable right to informational privacy.

The Boston Globe feature represents a meaningful moment of recognition for Rheaume’s advocacy on behalf of survivors and her contribution to a legal milestone that could influence privacy protections across the country.
