ME Breweries to Battle it out in Ice Hockey Tournament
Competition includes Local Beer, Food Trucks, DJ, Ice Girls, and Open Skating to raise money for the ME Brewers Guild
(March 2, 2016) Portland, ME – Six ME breweries will compete in the ME Brewers Cup Pond Hockey Invitational on Saturday, March 5, 2016, from 10am – 8pm at The Rink at Thompson’s Point. The friendly competition started in 2013 at Oxbow Brewing Company’s pond in Newcastle, but this is the first year the tournament has been moved to Portland to utilize all the amenities offered at The Rink at Thompson’s Point, including its Zamboni, warming hut and fire pits.
Participants include: Allagash Brewing Company, Baxter Brewing Company, Bissell Brothers Brewing Company, Liquid Riot Bottling Company, Oxbow Brewing Company and Rising Tide Brewing Company. Proceeds will go to the ME Brewers Guild.
The event showcases the competitive comradery of the beer industry in ME. “Everyone at Allagash is fired up to spend the day playing in and watching this tourney. I personally can’t wait to hang with all my brewing colleagues from around the state,” says Jason Perkins, brewmaster at Allagash. “I anticipate a highly competitive, yet friendly competition. And some delicious beers!”
This event is open to anyone to cheer on their favorite breweries. Entry is $10 and includes one drink ticket. DJ Mom will be spinning and there will be ice girls and a U.S. National Anthem singer, in addition to food trucks Mami, PB&ME, Fire &Co. and Coffee by Gorham Grind. Children get in free with a guardian and parking is free. There will also be a free open skate at the end of the tournament – the very last chance to get on the ice at The Rink until next year.
The ME Brewers Cup Pond Hockey Invitational is sponsored by Bernstein Shur, a business law firm located in Portland and Augusta, ME. For more than 20 years, the firm has counseled breweries of all sizes and is a proud supporter of ME brewers.
