Bernstein Shur Shareholder Kristin Mendoza Honored by New Hampshire Business Review

Portland and Augusta, ME and Manchester, NH (October 4, 2019) – Bernstein Shur, a leading New England based law firm, announced today Shareholder Kristin Mendoza received the 2019 Business Excellence Award from NH Business Review for Business and Professional Services at the publication’s October 3rd ceremony at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, New Hampshire.

The Awards, created in 2002 and presented by Citizens Bank, recognize the imagination, industriousness, innovation and achievements of business owners, and operators in New Hampshire.

Mendoza, referred to by clients as a tech-savvy business advisor, has been practicing for 20 years. She earned her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law specifically to be close to where technology was growing. Mendoza has a passion for working with tech startups and cut her legal teeth near Silicon Valley during the dot com boom where she worked with software engineers, giving her a unique ability to break transactions and legal issues down into action plans more easily understood by non-lawyers.

After 14 years in corporate law, Mendoza made the leap to start her own firm, Millyard Tech Law. The boutique business law practice for startups and small businesses focused on offering clients high quality legal services with flat fee and alternative fee billing. Her authenticity and personal experience, as well as her responsiveness and resourcefulness, resonated with entrepreneur clients who sought out her seasoned counsel and advice, putting them on the path to success. In two years of launching her own firm, Mendoza grew her client roster to over 100 startups and small businesses, launching 40 of them from inception, and assisting a number of them with private offerings, trademark registrations and mergers & acquisitions. She also wrote several small business guides and launched a blog article to de-mystify business law issues for entrepreneurs.

Mendoza joined Bernstein Shur in 2018 and continues to build on the success of the client and business model that she developed with Millyard Tech Law by guiding clients through private offerings, acquisitions, and complex transactions. Joined by several Bernstein Shur colleagues, she has re-launched and rebranded her blog, now known as Innovation@work, and continues to publish content in a variety of formats to guide entrepreneurs and small business owners on current laws and issues impacting their businesses.

Mendoza is also passionate about pro bono work and fundraising efforts, whether she’s providing legal counsel for the Center for Women & Enterprise or rappelling down one of the tallest buildings in New Hampshire for the United Way. She has served on the Board of Directors for the United Way of Greater Nashua, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Nashua and the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association Mendoza currently serves as the Board Chair of the Nashua Innovation Center.

About the Award: The NH Business Review honors individuals from New Hampshire-based businesses annually in the categories of Business and Professional Services, Consumer Services, Financial Services, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Nonprofit, Real Estate & Construction, and Technology.
