Bernstein Shur, a New England-based law firm that advises clients across the U.S. and around the world, is seeking an Energy / Environmental Legal Project Manager to work in its Portland, ME office.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Energy and Environmental Legal Project Manager manages and coordinates all aspects of energy and environmental projects, most particularly energy contract management. This role includes managing a database of contracts and amendments, tracking deadlines, and conducting outreach to contract parties to evaluate compliance, discuss amendments, and ensure all contracts comply with applicable laws and regulations. The successful candidate will be a proactive professional with exceptional organizational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, able to exercise the utmost discretion and possess a positive, can-do attitude. The position requires someone who is highly organized and able to support, manage and facilitate the needs of the busy team of professionals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Reviews project contracts
  • Manages financial aspects of contracts
  • Monitors time frame, policy, procedures for accomplishing projects
  • Coordinates with practice group attorneys to establish work plans, calendaring deadlines, billing practices
  • Ensures that project activities comply with applicable laws and regulations
  • Verifies and proofreads contracts based on detailed review of proposal specifications
  • Attends practice group meetings and communicates information related to each function’s needs concerning project requirements
  • Monitors project activities to ensure that the project is executed in accordance with client deadlines, budgets, and schedules; takes appropriate action to minimize the impact of deviations
  • Represents the firm in client meetings
  • Assists with preparation of written reports and/or updates (internal and external) for management, client, and practice group to ensure a clear understanding of project status
  • Quickly identifies, prioritizes, and resolves problems of a varying nature with minimal direction provided
  • Flexibility to assist with and work on a wide variety of assignments and projects
  • Works closely and effectively with assigned professionals to keep them well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, schedule changes, and preparation needed for meetings, following up appropriately and anticipating needs
  • Updates and enters counterparty information in CRM software

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior people/interpersonal skills
  • Ambitious, enthusiastic, positive can-do attitude and polished professional demeanor; a healthy sense of humor will be considered a plus. Tenacious in meeting deadlines with a strong sense of timeliness, decision-making, and good self-management discipline
  • Technologically savvy; highly proficient, expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 365; ability to work effectively within the firm’s document management, real estate, and billing applications; this includes superior Excel skills
  • Keen ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization and with firm’s clients
  • Work discretely with confidential information
  • Must be proactive, accountable and have excellent judgment
  • Detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment while making very few errors
  • Must be adaptable to change and remain calm under pressure
  • Ability to bill time with a goal of 1200 hours per year
  • 10+ years of previous experience in energy, real estate, or commercial law
  • BA/BS Finance, Business, Paralegal Certificate
