Bernstein Shur is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s Barnett I. Shur Civic Awards and the Sumner T. Bernstein Pro Bono Award, presented during the firm’s annual holiday celebration.

Community engagement has been woven into the firm’s identity since its earliest days, when Israel and Sumner Bernstein, as well as founding partner Barnett Shur, all dedicated significant time and professional skill to supporting their community. Today, these awards honor colleagues who follow in their footsteps and reflect the firm’s enduring values through profound commitment to public service, civic leadership, and pro bono work.

This year’s recipients include:

Barnett I. Shur Community Service Award

Sarah Resah Wilson

  • Sarah has been an integral member of Bernstein Shur for more than 27 years. Her work within the Philanthropic Education Organization reflects her deep commitment to empowering women through education and opportunity. Sarah contributes more than 360 volunteer hours annually and serves in multiple leadership roles that support women across Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island. Her dedication exemplifies what it means to lead quietly, consistently, and with impact.

Carli E. Labrecque

  • Carli is already a powerful community force early in her career. She currently serves as President of the Board of Our Place Portland, a grassroots organization supporting vulnerable youth and their families. In addition, she volunteers with NAMI Maine, assists victims of domestic violence through regional nonprofits, and spearheads independent outreach efforts for unhoused residents in Portland. Her work demonstrates compassion in motion, regularly meeting community needs with urgency and heart.
