Bernstein Shur attorneys Ann Freeman and Matt Victor will present at “Artificial Intelligence in Local Government,” co-hosted by the Maine Town, City, and County Management Association (MTCMA) and the Municipal Management Association of New Hampshire (MMANH) Joint Leadership Exchange, on December 5 in Freeport, Maine. The daylong program brings together local government leaders from across Maine and New Hampshire to examine emerging issues in artificial intelligence, develop effective governance frameworks, and share real-world examples of innovation in municipal operations.
Freeman and Victor will lead two sessions focused on equipping municipal leaders with practical, responsible strategies for using AI in government operations.
Session One, “AI Risks & Responsibility: Exploring Ethics & Accountability in the Public Sector” (9:15–10:30 am), will introduce the fundamentals of generative AI and unpack key legal and ethical considerations for municipalities—including transparency, privacy, bias, and accountability.
Session Two, “How to Choose Reliable AI Systems, Clean Data, and Ensure Responsible Implementation” (12:45–1:45 pm), will build on the morning session and explore how municipalities can evaluate AI tools, improve data quality, and implement technology responsibly to build trust and drive better outcomes.
