Here’s why you’ll enjoy working with her.

Katy loves all aspects of her work, from helping her clients carefully craft estate plans that meet their dispositive objectives to fine-tuning complex tax-driven planning and tax-reporting. Katy loves details. Her approach is kind, thoughtful and compassionate in helping clients navigate what can often be one of the most emotional and challenging parts of their lives.

But that’s not all. Katy is also very experienced in:

  • Reviewing and auditing estate plans for conformity with current law and tax planning purposes including assessment of jurisdictional issues for those now residing in Maine
  • Preparing wills, trusts (both revocable and irrevocable), powers of attorney, health care directives and health care proxy declarations
  • Advising clients regarding estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer and income tax planning (including the use of irrevocable life insurance trusts, charitable trusts, minor’s trusts, grantor retained annuity or unitrusts, dynasty trusts, family limited partnerships, limited liability companies, and qualified personal residence trusts); vacation home planning; business succession planning; and planning for more “complex” assets such as real estate holdings, large retirement accounts and interests in closely held businesses
  • Assisting clients with their non-tax based legacy planning
  • Administering estates and trusts of all sizes at all stages of administration (including: obtaining or preparing the appointment of the fiduciary; preparation and approval of fiduciary accountings and plans of distribution; preparation of deeds of distribution and related receipt agreements; the preparation of nonjudicial settlement agreements; and the preparation and filing of fiduciary income tax returns and estate tax returns)
  • Representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in controversies involving estate and trust settlement (including will contests, will or trust construction, trust reformation, trust termination and breach of fiduciary duty actions)
  • Serving as fiduciary (including personal representative, trustee, agent under power of attorney and conservator)
  • Advising clients regarding antenuptial agreements, including the preparation of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements and the post-execution reformation of those agreements

In her former life, Katy was:

  • An attorney at a boutique trusts and estates law firm in Portland
  • A Court Appointed Special Advocate Guardian ad Litem advocating for disadvantaged children in Maine
  • An intern at both Maine Revenue Services and Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic

When Katy isn’t working, she is…

Enjoying family time with her husband and sons and supporting her sons in their many endeavors. Katy also enjoys spending time outdoors.
