Andru Volinsky Sworn in as Member of New Hampshire Executive Council

Prominent community leader begins two year term as one of state’s top government watchdogs.

CONCORD, NH — Jan. 5, 2017 — At the New Hampshire State House today, Bernstein Shur attorney and community leader Andru Volinsky was sworn in as a new member of New Hampshire’s Executive Council representing District Two, which spans from Dover/Rochester to Concord and to Keene.

As a member of the Executive Council, Andru will act as an economic steward overseeing the State’s financial and administrative matters. Andru also will help confirm the appointment of judges, leaders of state agencies, and members of boards and commissions.

Andru is widely regarded as one of New Hampshire’s top trial and appellate lawyers.  After litigating capital cases in the South and before the United States Supreme Court, Andru built his reputation in New Hampshire by advocating for fair public school funding, most notably as lead counsel in the Claremont and Dover School Funding cases. Andru represented the New Hampshire Secretary of State in his effort to regulate municipal risk pools, an effort that returned over $100 million to local taxpayers. Andru has also worked tirelessly on behalf of the New Hampshire Retirement Security Coalition in its efforts to protect public workers’ pensions and served as New Hampshire legal counsel for the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign.

While Andru will continue to practice law part-time at Bernstein Shur, his pursuit of a responsive, people-first government will now primarily take place as Executive Councilor for Council District Two. “I’m honored that the voters of Council District Two have placed their trust in me. I am ready to work every day to give Granite Staters a strong, responsive voice on the Executive Council pursuing smart policy choices that will help working families and move our state forward,” said Volinsky.

A resident of East Concord, where he lives with his wife Amy, Andru earned his law degree from the National Law Center at George Washington University. Andru and Amy have three grown children who are contributing to the public good by pursuing careers in teaching, social work and in cooperatively owned businesses.
