Bernstein Shur Welcomes 5 New Attorneys to the Firm

Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, welcomed Amber Attalla, Zachary Brandwein, Daniel Keenan, Rachael McEntee, and James Monteleone to the firm’s Portland, ME office.

Amber Attalla

Amber Attalla joins the firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group. Her practice will focus on issues regarding federal and state leave laws, wrongful termination, wage and hour laws, restrictive covenants, workplace harassment, discrimination, and other evolving labor and employment issues. Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, Amber was a legal intern for the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project in Portland, ME and a student attorney in ME Law’s Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic. Amber received her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law, magna cum laude, and her B.A. from the University of Vermont. She also spent two semesters abroad at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico and in Oaxaca, Mexico where she found herself participating both as a student and then later as an on-site study abroad semester Program Coordinator for the University of Vermont. Amber was elected as a board member to the ME Justice Foundation in 2015, and she was the first law student to ever serve in that capacity. Amber resides in Portland, ME.

Zachary Brandwein

Zachary Brandwein joins the firm’s Energy and Municipal Practice Groups. His practice will focus on public finance and municipal governance. Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, Zack served as an intern to the Honorable Paul Cleary of the United States District Court; Northern District of Oklahoma, and prior to that he was a paralegal at Pine Tree Legal Assistance in Portland, ME. Zack received his J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he received Order of the Curule Chair, which is the highest academic honor at the university, his M.A. from the University of Southern ME, and his B.A. from Occidental College. Zack resides in Sidney, ME.

Daniel Kennan

Daniel Keenan joins the firm’s Business Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group.  His practice will focus on assisting an array of corporate clients in matters including chapter 11 reorganizations, assets sales, and bankruptcy-related litigation. Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, Daniel was a student attorney for the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic – Refugee and Human Rights Clinic, and most recently a judicial extern for Judge Kermit Lipez of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Daniel received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Maine School of Law, his M.A., cum laude, from Katholieke Universiteit, in Belgium, and he earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from Loyola University Maryland. Daniel joins Bernstein Shur with policy experience from both sides of the Atlantic, and resides in Portland, ME.

Rachel Becker McEntee

Rachael Becker McEntee joins the firm’s Energy Practice Group. She will focus on energy and environmental legal issues, including contract negotiation, and governmental approvals and permitting. Rachael received her J.D. from Boston University and her B.A. from Harvard University. While in law school, Rachael interned with Judge Lipez for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the ACLU of ME.  Prior to law school she worked for an education startup based in Cambridge Massachusetts, and as a faculty assistant for Harvard Business School. Rachael resides in Cumberland, ME.

James Monteleone

James Monteleone joins the firm’s Litigation Practice Group.  His practice will focus on construction and real estate matters.  Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, James was a law clerk at Keleher & McCleod, P.A. and he also spent some time as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable James O. Browning.  Additionally, James has many years of professional experience as a political reporter.  While living in New Mexico, James served as editor-in-chief of the New Mexico Law Review, and he also worked as a staff writer for the Albuquerque Journal. James earned his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law, his M.S. from Northwestern University, and his B.A. from the University of Illinois, and he now resides in Portland, ME.
