Bernstein Shur Shareholder Kai McGintee to Speak on Panel at Annual Sports Lawyers Association Conference in Los Angeles About Sexual Misconduct by Student Athletes
Portland and Augusta, ME and Manchester, NH (April 19, 2016) – Kai McGintee, shareholder at Bernstein Shur, will speak on a panel at the Sports Lawyers Association 42nd Annual Conference about sexual misconduct by student athletes. The conference will be held on May 12-14 in Los Angeles, California.
McGintee will join ESPN journalist Jane McManus as moderator and other national experts for a panel where she will share her insights on the topic of Off-Field Athlete Conduct Issues: Sexual & Domestic Violence. McGintee will be offering her perspective as an experienced Title IX investigator who specializes in investigating sexual violence complaints for colleges, universities, and private secondary schools throughout New England. The other participants in the panel include Heather McPhee, Associate General Counsel of the NFL Players Association, Adolpho Birch, Senior Vice President of Labor Policy for the NFL, and Allison Rich, Senior Associate Athletic Director at Princeton University.
“Although Title IX was once known for creating gender equity in college athletic programs, in recent years this law has become the primary enforcement mechanism for addressing the campus rape epidemic,” McGintee explains. She will discuss this epidemic, the complexities of Title IX, and the growing number of high-profile cases involving college athletes that have been accused of sexual misconduct.
