Summer Reading List: Women Don’t Ask: The High Cost of Avoiding Negotiation and Positive Strategies for Change by Linda Babcock and Susan Laschever
What role, if any, does negotiation play in your workplace? You may advocate for your clients and recommend your peers, but do you negotiate for what will make you a better employee and happier person?
Recent research indicates that, in addition to gaining more of what you want, negotiation elevates the conversation to allow everyone involved to walk away more satisfied. Women, however, typically shy away from negotiating. Why? And what steps can you take to reverse this statistic?
Please join the women of Bernstein Shur to discuss this important facet of female leadership in the workplace. As a jumping off point, we will reference Women Don’t Ask: The High Cost of Avoiding Negotiation and Positive Strategies for Change, a fascinating book by Linda Babcock and Susan Laschever that examines the obstacles women perceive with negotiation in the workplace. We will host a facilitated discussion with our guest panelists:
Babara Babkirk, Career Counselor & Founder, Heart at Work Associates
Clare Hannan, V.P of Administration & CFO, MPBN
Mary Herman, Consultant, Mary J. Herman Consulting
Lisa Walker, Director of Women and Gender Studies, University of Southern Maine
We encourage you to read the book, but welcome your attendance and personal perspective regardless.
RSVP to email@example.com or (207) 228-7166. Cocktails and refreshments will be provided courtesy of Bernstein Shur. Please forward this invitation to other women who might be interested in this event.
More details to follow in the fall.
