Portland, Maine – Continuing to expand its Securities Industry Practice Group with top talent, Bernstein Shur announced that Leslie K. Klenk, former Senior Vice President and Counsel in Citigroup’s Office of the General Counsel, has joined the firm in its Portland, Maine office.
During her tenure at Citigroup, Ms. Klenk was responsible for advising Citi Fund Services, LLC, a provider of administration, fund accounting, and transfer agency services to investment companies, on governance, regulatory and transactional matters involving open-end investment companies including, among other things, mergers of mutual funds and the conversions of limited partnerships, common trust funds and separate accounts into mutual funds.
“It is rare for a Maine-based firm to recruit an attorney with the breadth, depth, and scope of securities law and mutual fund compliance expertise that Leslie offers. Leslie’s 20 years of experience working on the New York Stock Exchange, as well as at Smith Barney, will be a great addition to an already strong and talented Business Law Practice Group,” said Charles Miller, managing shareholder of the firm.
Prior to Citigroup, Ms Klenk served as Director of Foreside Compliance Services and provided Chief Compliance Officer Service to a number of mutual funds. As Chief Compliance Officer, Klenk was responsible for testing and assessing the adequacy and implementation of the funds’ compliance procedures, inclusive of a variety of service provider procedures, evaluating and recommending updates, as necessary, to these procedures, and responding to periodic routine regulatory examination requests regarding the funds’ compliance programs.
Ms. Klenk is a graduate of the University of Virginia and received her law degree from Brooklyn Law School.
