December 1, 2008

PORTLAND, Maine – Bernstein Shur attorney and managing shareholder Charles E. Miller has been appointed co-chair of Lex Mundi’s Women’s Initiative Leadership Task Force. He shares this position with Christel Van den Eynden of Liedekerke, Wolters, Waelbroeck and Kirkpatrick in Brussels, Belgium.

In his role as co-chair, Mr. Miller will help guide the Women’s Initiative Leadership Task Force toward their goal of improving women’s appointments to and participation in leadership roles in the Lex Mundi law firms.

“Our firm and the entire Lex Mundi network are committed to the principal that all shareholders with the aptitude and ability to lead have leadership opportunities. That opportunity must be gender blind. Accordingly, I am pleased to be able to co-chair this effort for Lex Mundi,” said Mr. Miller. “It is an issue that is important not just to Lex Mundi and Bernstein Shur, but to the entire global legal community.”

In addition to being Bernstein Shur’s managing shareholder, Mr. Miller maintains a multi-state practice that incorporates all elements of real estate law, including the acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing, management, and development of real estate. He also focuses on business planning, including asset and stock sales and purchases, investment banker selection, formation of partnerships and other business structures, entity planning, and strategy and succession planning.

A resident of Portland, Mr. Miller is actively involved in many civic organizations, including the Jewish Community Alliance, The Maine Bar Foundation and the Muskie Fund for Legal Justice.

Mr. Miller received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Maine in 1979, a Master’s in Education from the University of Maine in 1973, and an undergraduate degree from Colby College in 1969.
