Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, is pleased to welcome three new associates to the firm’s Portland, Maine office: Ellen Palminteri, Andrew Helman and Travis Brennan.
Ellen Palminteri, a resident of Portland, Maine, has joined Bernstein Shur’s Business Law and Labor & Employment Practice Groups. Her business law practice is focused on corporate trust services, representing financial institutions and advising clients on corporate trust transactions. Palminteri’s labor and employment practice includes counseling employers on issues involving legal compliance and employee discipline and/or termination.
Palminteri is a 2010 cum laude graduate of Syracuse University College of Law. She earned her undergraduate degree cum laude from Ohio State University in 2004. While in law school, she interned with the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.
Andrew Helman, a resident of Bath, Maine, is a member of Bernstein Shur’s Business Restructuring & Insolvency practice group. He primarily represents debtors, creditors and other parties in insolvency-related matters, such as corporate restructurings, out-of-court “workout” negotiations and Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings.
Prior to law school, Helman worked in politics and journalism. He served as an aide to two House Majority Leaders, the Honorable Glenn Cummings and the Honorable Hannah Pingree. He also worked for Maine’s campaign finance agency – the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices.
Helman is a 2010 summa cum laude graduate of the University of the Maine School of Law and a 2002 cum laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Helman earned the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal for Excellence in Bankruptcy Studies, 2010.
Travis Brennan, a resident of Portland, Maine, is a member of the Litigation and Health Care Practice Groups. His litigation practice focuses on a wide range of civil litigation matters, and his health care practice concentrates on issues of licensure and license defense for health care professionals before state licensure boards.
From 2009-2010, Brennan served as a law clerk to the Honorable Justice Jon D. Levy, Associate Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Prior to law school, Travis worked on numerous policy issues for the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons), including issues related to Medicare and Medicaid. He earned his J.D. magna cum laude in 2009 from the University of Maine School of Law and is a 2004 cum laude graduate of Bowdoin College.
