Bernstein Shur Announces Appointment of Three Attorneys to Board of Directors

Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced today that attorneys Scot E. Draeger, Andru (Andy) H. Volinsky and Patricia (Pat) A. Peard have been selected by their colleagues to serve as members on the firm’s board of directors. They join other board members Patrick Scully, Joan Fortin, James F. Keenan, and CEO Charles Miller.

“We are honored to welcome Scot as a director and are pleased to have Andy and Pat continue to serve on the board,” said Miller. “Each of these attorneys has made vast and noteworthy contributions to the firm and to their respective constituents.  The leadership they provide as board members will further strengthen the firm and our ability to serve both our clients and the community.”

Scot Draeger, who has been elected to serve the board for a three-year term, is a shareholder and Bernstein Shur’s practice leader for the Securities and Financial Services Industries practice group. He focuses his practice on representing securities industry and capital markets participants in the full spectrum of regulatory, compliance, enforcement, and transactional matters, with an emphasis on counseling the investment management industry and financial services companies.

In 2010, he was named as a Maine Bar Fellow, an honor reserved for outstanding lawyers, judges and teachers of law. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission Historical Society.  A resident of Falmouth Maine, Draeger received his BS in 1996 from the University of Cincinnati, cum laude. He is a graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, where he received his JD in 1999.

Andy Volinsky, a shareholder and member of Bernstein Shur’s Labor and Employment and Litigation practice groups, has also been appointed to serve a three-year term on the board. The focus of his practice pertains to commercial litigation, including trade secrets and unfair trade practices disputes, employment law related litigation and issues of white collar crime. He has also worked to achieve the abolition of capital punishment by providing pro bono representation to capital defendants in Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, and before the United States Supreme Court.

A resident of Concord, New Hampshire, Volinsky was recognized by NH Public Radio in 2007 as one of New Hampshire’s most influential citizens over the past twenty-five years. He received his BA in 1976 from University of Miami, graduating magna cum laude. He went on to receive a certificate in conflicts resolution studies from the University of Pittsburgh, also in 1976. He holds a JD from the George Washington University National Law Center, where he graduated in 1980.

Pat Peard is a shareholder and a member of Bernstein Shur’s Labor and Employment practice group and Litigation practice group. She has been elected to a one year term on the board of directors. Peard practices in all areas of employment and labor law and counsels management in compliance issues under state and federal law.

Peard has earned recognition from Best Lawyers in America for her work in labor and employment law. She is AV-rated by Martindale Hubbell. A resident of Falmouth, Maine, she holds a BA from Wilson College, where she graduated in 1968, and an MA from the University of Minnesota, 1970. She received her JD from the University of Maine School of Law in 1988, where she graduated cum laude.
