Attorney Arnie Macdonald Honored for his Dedication to Pro Bono Legal Service

Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced that Arnie Macdonald was named the 2015 winner of the Howard H. Dana, Jr. Award by the ME Bar Foundation. Macdonald was separately elected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.

The Dana Award is presented annually to recognize an attorney who best exemplifies dedication to public and community service and commitment to the mission of the ME Bar Foundation including access to civil legal assistance for poor and vulnerable Mainers, and outstanding service in advancement of Foundation goals. Established in 1984, the Dana Award was also given to Bernstein Shur attorneys Sumner T. Bernstein in 1995 and Mary L. Schendel in 1986. The 2015 award will be presented during the ME State Bar Association’s annual meeting held in Rockport, ME January 22-23.

The American Bar Foundation was founded by the American Bar Association as a non-profit organization. The ABF conducts large-scale research projects on the most pressing issues facing the legal system in the United States and the world. ABF Fellows are nominated by their peers for their leadership, professional distinction and commitment to their communities. Macdonald joins a prestigious list of ME peers who have received this recognition.

“I am honored and flattered to be recognized by my peers for my passion that all Mainers should have access to justice for critical needs,” said Macdonald. “Our optimism that each of us will have a fair hearing on matters of safety, health, property, and other basic rights regardless of social or economic status is the heart of the hope and determination that make our society great.”

A resident of South Freeport, ME, Macdonald is a shareholder and member of Bernstein Shur’s Business Law, Construction Law, and Real Estate Law Practice Groups and chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. His practice focuses on business and finance in matters including business formation, real estate, franchising, succession planning and governance, mergers and acquisitions both domestic and international, and low income housing.
