Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced today that Attorney and Shareholder Andrea Johnstone has been selected as one of New Hampshire Business Review’s (NHBR) Outstanding Women in Business for 2011.
Johnstone is one of six individuals chosen this year for the designation, which celebrates the success and achievements of women in New Hampshire’s business community. The six women are selected for their vision, commitment and success in their chosen fields.
“New Hampshire has such a vibrant and diverse business community, and I am proud to be a part of it,” said Johnstone. “I am honored to have been chosen by my peers from a host of wonderful, qualified women equally worthy of such a distinction.”
“Like all the women chosen for this year’s award, Andrea is being honored for her commitment to her profession and her community,” said Jeff Feingold, editor of NHBR. “The Outstanding Women in Business honorees are true leaders and wonderful role models for young women — and men.”
In addition to her recognition from NHBR, Johnstone is recognized in both Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA for her work in labor and employment law.
A co-chair of the firm’s labor and employment practice, Johnstone advises employers in the administration of personnel policies and strategies for handling workplace-related issues. She is a frequent speaker on state and federal employment law issues, authors an employment law column in several trade association journals and is the co-author of Labor and Employment Law in New Hampshire, 2nd edition.
A resident of Hopkinton, Johnstone also serves as chairperson for the Children’s Alliance of New Hampshire and the Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire Human Resources, Healthcare and Workforce Development Committee and is a volunteer mediator for the New Hampshire Commission for Human Rights.
Prior to private practice, she served as a judicial law clerk in the New Hampshire Superior Court. She received her A.B. in 1985 from Wheaton College in Illinois and her J.D. from New York’s Hofstra University School of Law in 1988.
