June 24, 2011

Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced today that Attorney and Shareholder Andrea Johnstone has been elected as a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

The distinction honors attorneys who have made a significant contribution in their field and is the highest recognition by colleagues for “sustained outstanding performance in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence.”  Johnstone joins Bernstein Shur Attorney Terry Shumaker as a fellow at the college, which is represented by 1,100 members in 43 states, as well as in Puerto Rico and Canada.

“The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers is a vital resource that supports the practice of labor and employment law, individual rights, collective bargaining and dispute resolution,” said Charles E. Miller, chief executive officer of Bernstein Shur.  “We are proud to see Andrea recognized by the college for her exceptional service to clients and performance within the profession of labor and employment law.”

As co-chair of Bernstein Shur’s labor and employment practice, Johnstone advises employers in the administration of personnel policies and strategies for handling workplace-related issues. She is a frequent speaker on state and federal employment law issues, authors an employment-law column in several trade association journals and is the co-author of Labor and Employment Law in New Hampshire, 2nd edition.

A resident of Hopkinton, NH, Johnstone was named as 2011 NH Employment Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America and is also recognized in Chambers USA for her work in labor and employment law.  Prior to private practice, she served as a judicial law clerk in the New Hampshire Superior Court. She received her A.B. in 1985 from Wheaton College in Illinois and her J.D. from New York’s Hofstra University School of Law in 1988.
