Trusts and Estates Legal Assistant (Portland, ME)

Bernstein Shur seeks to hire a full time high-level legal assistant supporting two attorneys. This position requires 5 years of law firm experience with a background in trusts and estates or corporate/business law. The ability to communicate and work effectively in a team environment dedicated to providing quality client service is essential to the position; excellent organizational and DMS skills are required in addition to superior computer skills in Microsoft Office suite 2010 including Excel.

The candidate will be joining a dynamic and hardworking team and must have the ability to go with the flow and a “roll up your sleeves” attitude to get the job done. Knowledge of trust and estates principles along with knowledge of probate law and estate tax law basics needed. A background familiar with Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust needed.  The ability to communicate effectively with clients, beneficiaries, attorneys is needed.

Trust and Estates Paralegal (Portland, ME)

The Trusts and Estates paralegal assists with administration of trusts and estates, including preparation of probate documents, various tax returns, and estate and trust accounting, maintains frequent client contact with respect to such administration. This position provides attorneys with all necessary assistance in order to provide economical and efficient services for clients. The position is flexible and can be full time or part time depending on candidate requirements.

  • Prepare documents to probate will, administer and close estate
  • Prepare estate, gift, individual and fiduciary income tax returns
  • Prepare and maintain estate and trust accounting
  • Attend client meetings and maintain frequent contact for estate and trust administration and accounting purposes
  • Assist clients with or independently manage the transfer, distribution and liquidation of estate and trust assets
  • Maintain original estate planning documents for safe keeping
  • Perform periodic banking transactions
  • Oversee payment of expenses for individual clients, trusts and estates
  • Assist attorneys in case management
  • Develop and maintain working relationship with clients to ensure the expeditious gathering of facts and information necessary to support attorneys’ activities

Commercial Real Estate Paralegal (Portland, ME)

Monument Title Company, a growing subsidiary of Bernstein Shur, is seeking a seasoned commercial real estate paralegal with 8+ years of experience. The successful candidate will join a team of six dynamic paralegals supporting the Real Estate Practice Group, Business Law Practice Group and others  at Bernstein Shur.

Interested candidates should be knowledgeable, energetic and eager to put their experience to work immediately. Must be able to hit the ground running utilizing skills including closing document preparation, title insurance underwriting, survey and lease review, title searches, UCC searches and filings, land use research and due diligence and have the ability to adapt to ever-changing rules and regulations.

This position requires superior computer skills. Experience with Microsoft Office suite, TSS software, document management system and Laser fiche a plus. New Hampshire and/or Massachusetts experience helpful. The Monument Title Company paralegals work as a team and independently on projects and assignments while communicating effectively with co-workers, clients and attorneys. Occasional travel required.
