| < Home | ![]() Sue Bell sbell@bernsteinshur.com l 207 622-9671 Sue Bell has over 35 years of public administration, policy, communications, and education experience and served in all three branches of Maine State Government. Sue served as a Senior Policy Advisor to Governor Angus S. King, Jr. for eight years, providing strategic counsel, budget, and policy advice on matters related to Human Services, Behavioral and Development Services, Education, Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Marine Resources and other Natural Resource agencies. Sue represented the Governor before the legislature and business, non-profit, education and community leaders. Sue also served as Deputy Commissioner at the Maine Department of Conservation and as Director of the Maine Forest Service during the administration of Governor John R. McKernan. Sue was the first woman in the United States to be named State Forester in 1992 and was responsible for managing the State and Private Forestry programs funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She also served as Chair of the Baxter State Park Authority. Prior to joining Bernstein Shur Government Solutions in May, 2006, Sue served as the Director of Clerks of Court for the Maine Judicial Branch providing oversight and supervision of Clerks of Court for the Supreme Judicial Court, Superior Courts and District Courts in 40 locations throughout the State. For six years, Sue served as a member of the Maine House of Representatives representing four towns in Oxford County. She served on the Joint Standing Committees of Appropriations and Financial Affairs, State Government and Audit and Program Review. Sue taught high school biology and human physiology at Houlton and Oxford Hills High School and served as Health Education Coordinator for the Oxford Hills School District (MSAD #17) where she initiated the first Project Graduation in 1980. She holds Master of Arts degrees in Education and Public Administration.
