Larry Benoit

Larry Benoit joined Bernstein Shur Government Solutions in 2003 after a thirty-year career in congressional service. Larry began his career with U. S. Rep. Peter Kyros, served as Senior Field Representative to Senator Edmund Muskie, Chief Field Representative to Senator George Mitchell, and Chief of Staff to U.S. Rep. John Baldacci. He was elected Sergeant-At-Arms of the United States Senate in 1994, the primary executive position for the United States Senate, responsible for a budget of $105 million and more than 880 employees. He served as a member of the U.S. Capitol Police Board and was responsible for security of the Senate.

Benoit headed Governor Baldacci's transition into the Blaine House in 2003, coordinating all activities leading up to the inaugural, selection of cabinet appointees and important post-inaugural activities, including preparation of the new biennial budget.

Since joining Bernstein Shur, Benoit has represented a range of corporate clients, including General Dynamics, Casella Waste Systems, Central Maine Power Company, Tyler Technologies, Cianbro Corporation and Maine Beverage Company. He has assisted clients in managing large scale energy projects, state contracting, environmental permitting and general governmental relations.

Benoit has also managed four statewide referendum campaigns (two with budgets in excess of $1 million), including successful efforts to defeat the Palesky Tax Cap initiative in 2004 and the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) initiative in 2006. He took leaves of absence during his congressional career to manage several re-election campaigns for Senator George J. Mitchell and Congressman John E. Baldacci.
