PORTLAND, Maine – Patricia A. Peard, Esq. and Linda D. McGill, Esq. have been selected by their colleagues to Bernstein Shur’s Management Committee. Peard and McGill will each serve a three-year term, beginning June 1, 2007 and concluding May 31, 2010. “We are thrilled that these two talented women will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Bernstein Shur,” said Managing Shareholder Charles E. Miller. “Their vision and leadership will add significant value to our Management Committee."
Patricia A. Peard is one of the firm’s most prominent and accomplished attorneys. She practices in the area of general litigation with an emphasis in education law, employment and labor law, civil rights litigation, and disability insurance defense. She is chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group, and is a member of the Litigation Practice Group. Peard has been with the firm since 1988.
Peard is a 1988 cum laude graduate of the University of Maine School of Law and received a Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1970. She is also a 1968 graduate of Wilson College in Chambersburg, Penn.
Peard was the recipient of the 2006 L. Kinvin Wroth Award at the University of Maine School of Law, which is granted each year to an alumna or alumnus for distinction in her or his professional life. Peard also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from EqualityMaine for her role in the passage and defense of legislation that protects the rights of gays and lesbians. She has been recognized in both Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA for her work in labor and employment law. She is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
Linda D. McGill is one of New England’s most prominent labor and employment lawyers. A graduate of Northeastern University School of Law, McGill represents private and public sector employers in all aspects of employment and labor relations law. For several years, she has been rated as one of Maine’s top labor lawyers by Chambers USA and Best Lawyers of America. She is a frequent lecturer, writer, and trainer for business groups throughout New England and has taught at the University of Maine School of Law. McGill has been with the firm since 2004.
